Flexibility and creativity. These are the two main reasons I love running my mini-media empire. Most days I pack in a few appointments – a little time at a café or in my home office. Each day is also structured around spending time with my daughters – after all a strong family life is one the reasons I left the corporate world. Having to ask for permission to attend piano recitals or tennis lessons just didn’t mesh with my idea of modern motherhood.
The key to keeping it all together is a.) a great nanny to help me out b.) constantly checking my calendar to see when I need to pull back and c.) realizing that some things are just going to fall through the cracks and forgiving myself when they do.
Here goes an average and busy day in my life:
7 AM: Wake-up time. This usually involves two small people jumping into bed with me for morning snuggles.
7:30 AM: Family breakfast time. My husband usually gets breakfast started while I oversee wardrobing the girls. I get about 15 minutes to get myself ready for a photo shoot I have later in the day – good thing I set outfits out the night before.
8:30 AM: Drop off the girls at school. The walk is about 1.5 miles round-trip – it’s a nice little workout even on days I can’t get to the gym or a class.
9 – 10:30 AM: Head back to my house for a Momtrends YouTube video shoot. Today, I am demo’ing the new Shark sonic duo vacuum. I am new spokesperson. The goal of the video is to be informative and fun.
11 AM: The video is a wrap and I jump on an event conference call in my home office.
11:30 AM: A quick outfit change from my colored jeans, chambray top, and flats into something more chic: Cynthia Rowley tweed jacket, heels, and a silk top. I race to the subway.
12 PM: A lunch event with Sofia Vergara at the Trump SoHo. She is new spokesperson for hypothyroidism. (Check out my article!)
2 – 3 PM: Hop back on the subway and head north. I’ve got about an hour before my next appointment – so I grab a seat an outdoor table in the meatpacking district. Thanks, Mayor Bloomberg! I always have a Wi-Fi card with me so I can hop online anywhere.
4:30 PM: Subway home to Brooklyn – third ride of the day. It’s cheap and fast transportation. I do dream of having a limo drive me all over the city one day. But then I’d probably gain 5 lbs.
5:30 PM: Get home and change into gym clothes for a quick workout at gym in my building.
6 PM: Pizza night! Since my husband is traveling, I give myself the night off from cooking. With a nod to healthiness, I sauteed spinach for a side. After dinner we all clean up the kitchen and pack lunches for tomorrow.
7 PM: Family bath. We have a huge Jacuzzi tub and it fits all three of us.
7:30 PM: Two rounds of Candy Land. I win once!
8 PM: PJs, teeth-brushing, and two chapters of J.M.Barrie’s Peter Pan.
9 PM: Time to hop back online for a Pinterest party with The Honesty Company. I met Jessica Alba last year. We hosted her NYC blogger launch. It’s exciting to see her business grow so much. This is a fun collaboration.
10 PM: Work on recap of our travel event. Posting on Feb, YouTube etc.
11 PM to 1 AM: Answer emails and collapse into bed
